Application Guidelines

Application Procedures
(Please read ALL the information carefully.)
(Revised 1/05/07)

As a rule, the Foundation does not support or make contributions to individuals, multi-year grants, international projects, state supported colleges or universities, primary and secondary schools, churches, or fund raising drives and special events.

Grants are limited to tax-exempt organizations that are described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicants must submit a photocopy of their most recent determination letter from the IRS.

First time grant seekers:
If you have not received funding from the Frueauff Foundation before, please first confirm that your agency falls within our required guideline criteria.

  • MUST be a 501(c)(3) social service agency, health care agency or hospital, or a private 4 year college or university. (Unsolicited requests from public colleges and universities are not supported by the Foundation.)

  • The Foundation awards grants in 26-29 states. The Foundation does not normally award grants in the following states:

  • Arizona   Michigan   Ohio
    Alaska   Minnesota   Oregon
    California   Montana   Utah
    Hawaii   Nevada   Washington
    Idaho   New Mexico   Wisconsin
    Iowa   North Dakota   Wyoming

*Note: (Unsolicited grant requests from these states are not accepted. Any grants made in these states are Foundation initiated.)

For those that fall within the required criteria, please send via postal service a one-page letter of inquiry and include the following information.

  • Very brief agency mission and purpose

  • Agency location

  • Brief purpose of request and amount requested

  • Email address if you wish to receive notification via email

*Most first time grant awards are $15,000 or less.

** Letters of Inquiry received between January 3 and February 20 will be reviewd and considered. This allows time for Foundation staff to respond and time for you to submit a full and complete proposal by the March 15th deadline if approved.

**Letters of Inquiry received between June 1 and August 1 will be considered. Again, this allows time for Foundation staff to respond and time for you to submit a full and complete proposal by the September 15th deadline if approved.

PLEASE note that letters received outside the above time frames will not be responded to or considered. The foundation is small staffed and this process allows us to operate most efficiently and affectively for our grantees and grantseekers.

Current Grant Recipients:
If you currently receive funding from the Frueauff Foundation or you have received confirmation from our office to submit a full proposal based on your letter of inquiry, please submit the following via postal service.

  • Proposal should include a history of the organization, project description, need for support, objectives, time period, projected budget, evaluation plan, and additional funding requested or received from other funding sources.
  • A list of trustees (or directors) and key staff.
  • Most recent financial statements (audited statements).
  • Copy of the latest IRS 501(c)(3) tax exemption letter.

Application deadlines are: September 15th and March 15th. When at all possible, please avoid waiting until the deadline. The Foundation Board meets twice each year. All grant awards are given once a year in mid December.

The Charles A. Frueauff Foundation does not have a printed application form. Please do not send audio or video tapes unless requested by the Foundation.

All grant seekers will receive notification of the Foundation's decision regarding funding. If you are a first time grant seeker and would like to receive a response via email, please make sure your email address is included on your one-page letter of inquiry.
